Matt McKenzie

Matt McKenzie is a Youth Minister for the South Plains youth ministry.  Matt is responsible for maintaining a healthy vision and focus for the youth ministry ensuring that the ministry is partnering with parents in order to provide an environment and foundation for teens to develop a lifelong relationship with Christ. Matt’s primary responsibilities include teaching, mentoring, and organization.

Matt’s roots are deep within Lubbock and South Plains.  Growing up at South Plains and graduating from Frenship has afforded Matt with a genuine connection to the teens at South Plains and a unique insight to their school settings.  He graduated from Lubbock Christian University in 2005 with his bachelor’s degree in Youth and Family Ministry and has worked with the youth ministry in different capacities since his graduation.  Matt married Jennifer on June 3, 2006.  Jennifer, who is an elementary teacher by profession, is actively involved with the youth ministry and is passionate about helping teens develop a deep faith!

Matt enjoys music and is very musically gifted.  He can play 7 different instruments (not at the same time)!  He is amazing with graphics and video production.  Often times he can be found honing his Nintendo Wii skills or gloating about his personal best score of 208 at the bowling ally long ago.  Matt enjoys playing and watching sports. Jennifer, who shares the same home town as Nolan Ryan (Alvin, TX),  enjoys shopping, water skiing, and going on dates with her husband!

Trent Roberson

Trent Roberson is the Youth and Family Minister for South Plains. Trent is responsible for maintaining a healthy vision and focus for the youth ministry ensuring that the ministry is partnering with parents in order to provide an environment and foundation for teens to develop a lifelong relationship with Christ. Trent’s primary responsibilities include teaching, mentoring, and organization.

One would think that being born in the same hometown as Waylon Jennings (Littlefield, TX) would destine Trent to become a music legend. Unfortunately, his musical dreams were shattered after earning last chair violin in the 6th grade orchestra at Hardwick Elementary in Lubbock. After graduating from Coronado High School in 1995 he attended Lubbock Christian University and earned his Bachelors Degree in Youth and Family Ministry in 2000 and his Masters in Bible and Ministry in 2005. Trent and his family have served full time at South Plains since March of 2000. He also serves as an adjunct professor within the Youth and Family Ministry department at LCU.

Trent married his 6th grade nemesis and college sweetheart (Sarah Perkins) on August 9, 1997. They have three children Kyle , Kelsey, and Katy Beth. He enjoys spending time with his family, coaching Kyle in baseball, playing “beauty shop” with his girls, and traveling with Sarah. Trent is a huge Texas Tech football fan who never misses a home game and a die hard New York Yankees fan which is evident throughout his office.  If you have a few extra hours ask Trent about his recent trip to Yankee Stadium!

Sarah is passionately involved with the youth ministry and enjoys investing time in the lives of teenagers. Her interests include decorating, gardening, exercising, and outdoor activities. Sarah loves being a mom!
